Somalia: Al Shabaab ups the ante
In the deadliest ever attack on the western-backed Somali government, two suicide bombers yesterday killed six MPs and 26 others in the capital Mogadishu. The al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group, Al Shabaab, has claimed responsibility. So with the worsening violence, just how long can Somalia's transitional government remain in place? And is there any point in bolstering African Union troops when, so far, they have failed to gain control?
