Iraq: mission accomplished? (Part 2)
The last American combat troops have now left Iraq, 7-and-a-half years after the invasion which toppled Saddam Hussein. 50,000 'non-combat' troops remain to train the country's security forces and protect US facilities. They are due to leave in a year, but that will partly depend on whether the recent increase in violence intensifies, and whether Iraqi politicians could form a stable government.
