Now for the hard part. Or skeptics might say, the impossible part. After a ritual White House photo opportunity with Barack Obama, the first direct peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians in nearly two years have gotten underway in Washington. The aim is nothing less than to bring an end to the Israeli occupation of territory captured in the 1967 war, and create a democratic Palestinian state, coexisting alongside Israel.
