THE DEBATE

A live debate on the topic of the day, with four guests. From Monday to Thursday at 7.10 pm Paris time.

Latest update : 2010-11-01

France-Algeria: Facing the Past on Screen (part 2)

France is faced with uneasy viewing in its cinemas with the release of a film examining the life of three Algerian men in France after the War between the two nations. It is against this historical background, still under dispute, that film director Rachid Bouchareb made the film Hors la Loi. Hors la Loi is the fictional story of three Algerian brothers after 1962, and their passage in France. It follows other recent movies which have dealt with uneasy aspects of French history.

A debate with Mark Owen and guests:

Franck GARBARZ, Film Critic for Positif and professeur at ESRA (Ecole Supérieure de Réalisation Audiovisuelle in Paris)
Régis LE SOMMIER, Co-editor in Chief, Paris Match
Alejandro HOYOS, Latin-America Film Association “le chien qui aboie” and PhD candidate, Cinema and national identity in Latin-America
Joseph LAMPEL, Director of the Film, Media and Entertainment research Centre at CASS Business (by phone from London, UK)
