Under the rule of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazil has become more and more prosperous. Its agriculture industry is thriving, and as a result the country has been given the nickname "the world's farm". But not everywhere in Brazil has been hit by this wave of good fortune. Corruption, bureaucracy, poor infrastructure, bad quality education and an overly strong currency are just some of the problems facing Lula's successor.

Libyan refugees rejected by Italy set up camp in Hamburg

When the Libyan war broke out two years ago, thousands fled the country in search of security and employment. Many made their way to the island of Lampedusa in Italy, but the Italian authorities closed reception facilities, and gave the migrants a few hundred euros to leave. Now hundreds of Africans from Togo, Ghana and the Ivory Coast have set up camp in Hamburg. Our correspondents spoke to some who have taken up quarters in a church.

In Somalia, women who fled a famine two years ago are now falling prey to rape by militias and even government troops. These attacks are taking place in displaced camps where they hoped to find refuge. An organisation is helping victims, offering counselling and legal support, but it's uphill battle in a country where speaking out against rape is still widely considered taboo. In January this year, a woman was even sent to prison after complaining that she was violated by government soldiers.

The difference between Brazil and France is that, the Brazilians everyday wake up and try to make a living, and the French people wait for the social welfare.

The primary reason is Lula did so much for all the people, those at the top of the socio-economic ladder and those at the bottom. His humanitarian and economic policies will progress. And Brazil will continue to spawn entrepreneurs who are also human beings like Ricardo Semler, who is equally concerned with success in business and with the progress of "anthropology", that is his concern and actions for what is natural and humane for workers and people in general. If Lula's hand picked candidate wins the run off, as she is expected to do. Also the move away from the US and its meddling in South America, laid the foundation for Lula's success. Long live Brazil
