Europe terror: How real is the threat? (part 2)

The US government has warned its citizens in an official travel advisory to be vigilant travelling in Europe and the United Kingdom's Foreign office has also warned of a "high threat of attacks in France and Germany: The fears it seems are of an al-Qaeda commando-style attack and the Eiffel tower was evacuated twice in September after false alerts. So how serious is the danger and where exactly is it coming from?
