French Justice minister Michèle Alliot-Marie travelled to Algeria last week for an official visit.Her trip signaled an improvement in relations between the two countries. As well as meeting her Algerian counterpart, Alliot-Marie held talks with the country's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. After the recent kidnappings and killings of French citizens elsewhere in the region, the question of the North African branch of Al-Qaeda was high on the agenda.
