The Afghan government has admitted receiving bags of cash from Iran. We'll look at how the American and the Iranian press are covering the story. Also in the papers: Christian communities in Muslim countries, the first basketball rules up for grabs and Otis the hippo shoots to fame.

The Afghan President Hamid Karzai has admitted his office is receiving millions of dollars from Iran. This comes after The New York Times revealed the information over the week-end. According to the newspaper, the money is allegedly used to pay tribal elders and Taliban commanders to secure their loyalty.
The San Francisco Chronicle’s editorial criticizes Afghanistan saying it can no longer be trusted. “President Karzai has earned the label as the bext President money can buy”.
For Iranian newspaper the Tehran Times, the New York Times’ claims are “insulting and foolish”. Until this morning, the Iranian embassy denied giving cash to Afghanistan but the foreign ministry has just confirmed Iran had indeed given aid to Afghanistan, mainly for the reconstruction of the country.
 
Meanwhile, The Independent reports that Christians are gradually fleeing the Middle East.
 
In other news, the original rules of basketball, written by the sport’s creator James Naismith in 1891, are soon to be sold at an auction in New York.
