AFP - Frenchman Franck Cammas won the ninth edition of the Route de Rhum trans-Atlantic, single-handed yacht race here on Tuesday.
Cammas brought his giant trimaran Groupama 3 home in an official time of nine days three hours and 14 minutes, the race having started when 85 boats churned out of the French port of Saint Malo on October 31.
The 37-year-old Cammas, who was third in the 2000 edition of the race, had already this year won the Jules Verne Trophy, a round-the-world team event.
He succeeds compatriot Lionel Lemonchois, who won four years ago in a record time of seven days 17 hours and 19 minutes.
In a contest involving predominantly French yachtsmen, second place in the race was being hotly contested between Francis Joyon and Thomas Coville.
