Mali conflict: Once the French have gone...

French lawmakers have given the green light to keeping troops in Mali. Operation Serval began in January, and since then, al Qaeda-linked jihadists have been chased out of Mali's towns and cities. French troops have already begun to leave and the government says that just 1,000 soldiers will remain until the end of the year for training purposes. The Redemption of George Bush before les cher tetes blonds?

Redeem himself? To whom? Europeans? For simply being offensive to their sensibilities?

Of all the presuppositions I've heard from Europeans over the past 30 years, that is very nearly the most arrogant and self-absorbed that I think I've ever heard.

His recent interviews in the US media were prefaced with the hope that he would bite whoever he interviewed, and he proved that he was essential GWB: gracious, thoughtful, a gentleman, thankful and with warmest wishes for President Obama.
