THE OBSERVERS

A show produced with photos, videos and personal accounts from our Observers around the world - all checked by our staff here in Paris. Saturday at 10.15 am Paris time.

Latest update : 2010-11-22

Aung San Suu Kyi freed in Burma, forgotten flood victims in Pakistan and original solution to recharge West African phones

Derek Thomson presents a news show produced exclusively from content provided by amateurs. Photos, videos and personal accounts from our network of Observers around the world - all checked by our staff in Paris. First run Saturdays at 8:10 am Paris time.

Presentation : Derek Thomson.  Editorial Team : Julien Pain, Ségolène Malterre, Lorena Galliot, Sarra Grira, Paul Larrouturou.

STORY 1 : BURMA

Our first Observer is Burmese. He's one of thousands of Burmese who live in exile, banished from his country because of his political views. When Aung San Suu Kyi gave her first speech after years of house arrest, he couldn't be there in person.

Observer : Kio in Bangkok, Thailand.

STORY 2 : PAKISTAN

Winter is coming to the northern hemisphere... and that's bad new for millions of people in Pakistan who are still living in camps after this summer's flooding. Our Observer was there a few weeks ago, and he says the flood victims are still not getting the help they need.

Observer : François Colson.

STORY 3 : MALI

Now to Mali in West Africa. Mobile phones have pretty much revolutionized communications in the countryside. But there's a problem... Most villages still have no electricity, so how do people recharge their phones? Our Observer has a solution.

Observer : Boukari Konate. He's in the city of Ségou, but travels to the villages to spread the word.
