DRC: Trial in The Hague: will the guilty pay?

Is this the end of impunity in the Democratic Republic of Congo? The trial of Jean-Pierre Bemba, a former Congolese vice-president, opens before the ICC today. He is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Central African Republic in 2002-2003. The charges allege that his militia, the Movement for the Liberation of Congo, used rape as a weapon to terrorise civilian populations.
