THE OBSERVERS

A show produced with photos, videos and personal accounts from our Observers around the world - all checked by our staff here in Paris. Saturday at 10.15 am Paris time.

Latest update : 2011-01-05

Best of the Observers show in 2010

A selection of our best Observer videos and contributions in 2010.

Presentation: Derek Thomson. Editorial team: Julien Pain, Lorena Galliot, Segolène Malterre, Sarra Grira and Paul Larrouturou.

STORY 1: WEST PAPUA

A video showing Indonesian soldiers torturing indigenous people from West Papua was posted on the internet a few days ago. According to our Observer, such acts are commonplace in a region where the military has free reign to suppress the slightest sign of rebellion.

Observer: Benny Wenda

STORY 2: SENEGAL

The Senegalese government has launched an aggressive campaign to root out begging from the streets of Dakkar. Its main targets are Koranic schools, most of which depend on donations their pupils collect on the street. Our Observer visited one of the these schools.

Observer: Samba Gname

STORY 3: UNITED STATES

She’s the woman every woman dreams of being when confronted with a sexual harasser. When Nicola Briggs noticed the exposed penis of a man standing much too close to her in a New York subway in early September, she didn’t recoil in disgust, but gave her offender the verbal lashing he deserved.

Observer: Nicolas Briggs
