Secret Palestinian Concessions

In today’s international press review, we focus on the revelation of 1,600 secret documents about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to the files, Palestinian negotiators accepted Israel’s annexation of all but one of the illegal settlements in 2008.

IN THE PAPERS

The British newspaper The Guardian and the television channel Al Jazeera revealed secret documents about concessions made by Palestinians about Israeli settlements.

The files show that Palestinian negotiators secretly agreed to give up parts of Jerusalem and accept Israel’s annexation of all but one of the illegal settlements. The Guardian says many Palestinians see this as a “national humiliation”.

Meanwhile, The Jerusalem Post interviewed a senior Palestinian official, who condemned the leak, denying such far-reaching concessions.

More secret documents are expected to be published throughout the week. Some allegedly reveal that Palestinian leaders were privately tipped off about the war in Gaza, two years ago.

In other news, the Chinese President Hu Jintao came home from his visit in the United States. The Wall Street Journal reports about the local media’s coverage.

And finally, The Daily Mail talks about the dangers of dieting, and Aujourd’hui en France tells the story of a fake penguin that mysteriously disappeared in Southern France.
