The French press focuses on the President Nicolas Sarkozy. He’s expected to wish journalists a happy New Year and answer questions about international issues.

According to Libération, Sarkozy wants to boost his popularity rate and secure a second mandate in the 2012 election. France Soir reports that Carla Bruni will play an important role in her husband’s campaign. According to a recent survey, 56% of the French believe she has a great influence on Nicolas Sarkozy.

Meanwhile, Midi Libre reveals a new calendar featuring Nicolas Sarkozy, wearing glasses and using a white cane. The photo is a montage and it’s part of a project created by the National Federation for the Blind.

And finally, the Christian newspaper La Croix focuses on the political crisis in Tunisia. Le Figaro interviewed the country’s interim Foreign Minister, Kamel Morjane.
