Serbian court convicts 12 for slaying French football fan

A Serbian court convicted 12 of the 14 Partizan Belgrade fans of first degree murder Tuesday accused of killing French football fan Brice Taton in 2009. The court handed down sentences ranging from four to 35 years in prison.

AFP - A Serbian court on Tuesday convicted 12 hooligans of first degree murder for the brutal killing of French football fan Brice Taton in 2009, with two other suspects found guilty of violent behaviour.

The court handed down sentences ranging from four to 35 years in prison for the 14 men, all hardcore fans of Partizan Belgrade.

Taton was attacked in a bar and beaten by baseball bats ahead of Toulouse's 3-2 Europa League victory over Partizan on September 17, 2009.

He died in a Belgrade hospital 12 days later.

The 10-month trial was marked by the obvious fear of many of the witnesses who often changed their testimony.

None of the witnesses called, including several French nationals and two protected witnesses, shed light on what happend with Taton or who beat him.

Two of the 14 accused are at large and were tried in absentia.

I am from serbia and i am glad that for once justice has previled in this type of cases.
I am also a fan of partizan belgrade and in no case
support the monstrosity that so called
``partizan fans ``have done.
They`ve all got 35 years (240 years combined)jail time and i
hope they stay there for a long time for what they have done
to brice taton.Once again our condolences for the death of
that young man.!!!!!!R.I.P!!!!!!
