Tempers flare over Raymond Davis case

Side with the people or back your biggest ally? That's the decision Pakistan will have to make to resolve the Raymond Davis case. This American is accused of killing two Pakistanis in Lahore in January, a shooting he says was in self-defence. Davis, a former member of the Special Forces, was working for the US Embassy and Washington says he has diplomatic immunity. But the Pakistani people want to see him tried.

Students in Quebec march against tuition fee hike

Student protests in the Canadian province Quebec are into their fourth month. Hundreds were arrested at marches to mark 100 days since the protests began. Students are demonstrating against an 80 percent rise in tuition fees in Quebec, the Canadian province that has until now enjoyed the country's lowest rates for higher education.

Egyptians head to the polls

Egyptians go to the polls in the country's first truly contested presidential election on Wednesday. With an array of candidates to choose from, voters will decide who's the best man to lead them through the last phase of the country's troubled democratic transition that began with Egypt's revolution in January last year. Cairo correspondents Kathryn Stapley and Sonia Dridi talked to some of the activists whose protests in Tahrir Square changed the course of Egypt's history.

A troubling time for Egypt's Coptic Christians

Egyptians go to the polls tomorrow to vote for a new president for the first time since Hosni Mubarak was ousted during the revolution last year. Two of the front-runners in the presidential race with a realistic chance of winning are devout Islamists, which is troubling for Egypt's Coptic Christians. They are Egypt's largest religious minority and many of them don't think any of the candidates are capable of protecting them from the religious violence that has been steadily increasing.

'The Battle of the Empty Stomachs'

Palestinians nicknamed it "the battle of the empty stomachs". For weeks, 1,600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails refused food and drink in what became the longest ever mass hunger strike. Israel finally capitulated and a deal was reached, allowing those in isolation back onto the general wards, and visas for those family members wishing to visit from Gaza. In exchange, prisoners agreed not to carry out "security activities" such as recruiting for terrorist missions.

Serbia's new president - nationalist or not?

Serbia has elected a new president - and it's not the one that most people were expecting. Tomislav Nikolic has unseated Boris Tadic, the man in power since 2004. Observers are worried about the new head of state, who used to be part of the ultra-nationalist Radical Party. He once said he would prefer to be allied with Russia than join the EU, but he has since toned down the rhetoric, saying he will take Serbia to Europe after all.

Criminal negligence

We have no right to celebrate independence because we are still a slave and we take dictations from our lord America for every single issue in the country. As Raymond had allegations of double murdering and his act was strongly condemned by the whole nation, he was set freed. Imagine the intensity of heat and grief on the sad incident that wife of a victim committed suicide out of feelings of helplessness and despair from the justice delivering faction of the society. Religious groups and political parties pushed the families of victim to accept blood money referring it as a shariah law. At last but not least it was proven that money can buy you anything even pardon. It is shame for the whole nation that we have no dignity but compromises in life .we pardoned Raymond Davis for three lives but could not manage a pardon for Aafia for just attempt to attack on Nato officer. Shame, woe and curse many times on all of us for being sold out for dollars and humble slaves of America.

Now that the US officials have expressed remorse at the killing of 2 Pakistanis, let us hope that the blood money will play the trick and Davis would be released. Of course Pakistan will have to controll its Mullas and protect its minorities including Ahmadiyyas. About the nuclear weapons, the only feasible solution is that India should let its grip loose on Kashmir and Pakistan and India should both rid of their nukes. Pakistan: The most Dangerous place on earth

Lets come out of all this legal, ethical and sovereignty questions. There is a much bigger question looming large over all this. Pakistan right now is the most dangerous place on earth with the fifth biggest stockpile of nuclear weapons sitting in an imploding nation. A country where Presedent is asking for foreign bodyguards to protect him, how safe are the nuclear arsenals?
Raymond Davis and many more like him are serving a much bigger cause by tracking the nuclear weapons and delivery mechanisms which may need to be secured on any given day. India unfortunately doesnt have the capability and China doesnt have the willingness. If US doesnt make sure they secure all the nuclear arsenals in event of any eventuality, its a big human tragedy waiting to happen.
