Fresh protests as Tunisians call for all trace of Ben Ali to be removed from new government

Tunisia is still standing on shaky political ground, a month and a half after demonstrators forced President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali from office. On Sunday, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi responded to calls for his resignation by standing down, swiftly followed by Industry minister Afif Chelbi. Yet the people still have more demands: they want all trace of Ben Ali removed from their new government.

Prisons, the nation's shame

France's jails, ranked among the worst in Europe by human rights groups, have been described by French President Nicolas Sarkozy as the country's "shame". A bill designed to address the crisis is now in the hands of French lawmakers.
