The Libyan crisis continues to make the headlines in the international press. As several cities have now fallen into the hands of the opposition, many fear Muammar Gaddafi’s regime will strike back. Others are determined he will eventually back down. In the meantime, thousands of people are fleeing to neighboring Malta...

IN THE PAPERS

The Guardian describes the atmosphere in Zawiyah, a city now held by the opposition, close to Tripoli.

Meanwhile, Britain has frozen the assets of Gaddafi and his five children.
There were reports that Gaddafi had moved £3 billion to Britain last week.

The Independent focuses on Mustafa Abdel Jalil, Gaddafi’s former Justice Minister who resigned a week ago and who says he is now in charge of an interim government in Benghazi. The British daily also reports about looting in Libya’s oilfields.

The Times (Malta) reports about the wave of foreigners who have found refuge in Malta. The country is calling for the European Union’s help.

The International Herald Tribune published a cartoon that sums up the situation.

And finally, the Huffington Post reports about “The King’s Speech”. The film has won four Oscars including best picture, best director and best original screenplay. The Daily Mail takes a look at the red carpet’s best outfits.
