UMP ruling party divided over ‘debate on Islam’
FRENCH PAPERS, Tues., 29/3/2011: The French papers continue to dissect the fall out of Sunday’s local elections in France. A disappointing result for the ruling UMP party has lead to deeper divisions over strategy one year ahead of the Presidential election. In particular, key figures are divided over the merits of the current “debate on Islam and secularism”, initiated by the UMP party.
