First woman fined for flouting new 'burqa ban'

there are much more important things than a stupid burka.people appreciate deeds not images and noises .i'm muslim and i object ! one guy said above " an eye for an eye " ... plz get real !!!

BAN BIKINI NOT BURGA(HIJAB)

The ban was not put into place to confine any religion, culture, or people. The purpose of the ban is much simpler than that: public safety. Anyone is able to put on the full islamic veil and hide in plain sight. They could have weaponry or explosives under the veil and no one would ever be able to know until it is too late. The veil has already been used by men to elude capture and has also been used by men and women to get closer to a target for a bombing or a shooting. Our recent increased involvements in this culture have shown us these things.

Every government has as its primary purpose an obligation to protect the citizenry. The ban is completely legal and rational as well needed in other nations as well. It also tells you why we don't need to be uncovering nuns who can already be identified nor why any other 'dress code' is being implemented.

Who cares if someone wants to hide under a black sheet and walk around the streets. Maybe they like looking different and others looking at them. It's one way to be noticed. Some women buy Brand bags to be noticed maybe they should just don a burka to turn heads

I have a personal theory that the veil came about through ladies protecting their skin from the hot sun, and became such common practice that it became rare,and later improper for a lady to be seen without a covered face, probably preceding the advent of the Muslim religion. Therefore I would argue that the religious argument has probably no true foundation in Islam.

Niqab and Burqa is followed by Muslim women since hundereds of years, this is not nothing new to this world every one is aware of that in all the Western Countries.
Burqa has always prevented women from getting raped by man, look at a scenario between two women who covers her body completly and a women in bikini who will get raped soon.
Sarkozy has used this tool to get vote Bank as America used 9/11 to get free Oil from Middle East and get our TAX Money in there pockets.
A person who impose hardship to others can never bring peace to his own people, sooner or later they will regret of their actions and a day will come this kinda leaders will be hanged to death in public by their own people.

The women who wear these coverings don't even know the real reason as to why they are told to wear them. Whatever they have been told, it is not necessary to completely cover themselves, but just to be dressed modestly. All these laws are enforced by men who wish to remain in control of women, it is nothing to do with their religion. These women should really start to wake up to this repression.

This new law is a proper addition to similar laws already in place. For example, Catholic children are not allowed to wear their Crucifixes to school. It is the same for other religious symbols. France is a country dedicated to equality among all. And as another commented, when Caucasians (of whatever religion) visit Muslim countries, we are respectful and cover, dress properly. The only public Muslim clothing banned by this new law, is the clothing that absolutely hides who is under it. To listen to some, it sounds as if every last Muslim adornment (pardon if that is not the proper word) is being outlawed. This is simply not the case. Would it not be horrible, tragic if someone used this in a malicious or violent way? To be clear I mean to say, if someone who is not Muslim used that article of clothing to cover themselves and accomplish a criminal act. I do not think it would be in keeping with any police to physically remove the covering. Perhaps peacefully accompany the police station and have someone remove it in a private setting? I agree with most of what Deedee says. And to the commenter who caps "Remember You Will Be Accountable For This Day!" You may not have meant it to sound threatening, but it does "read" that way. why there is no law forbidding walking naked in the streets and public parks . we must forbid niqab , prostitution and pornography , Prostitution but not niqab is legal

You french make me sick with your near entire political establishment and its openly hostile attitude to Women who who decide to wear the veil.
At the end of the day ,It will boil down to you having to rip it off one of there faces in the name of 'tolerance.'

I agree with that law base on security issue, a theif could dress in full veil and robb a bank, and there is nothing in the Quran that say the women has to cover their FACES.
I am a muslim I don't wear The hijab or cover up,it is my choice, I wouldn't like someone to say to me you need to walk naked, because i said so . In addition I don't like someone saying to me that I need to cover up because my religion say so.
It is no one business but mine, it is between me and God end of story.

The Face veil should be enforce based on security reasons only.

Im always so surprised at muslim reactions to this ban, why not accept the laws and opinion of the native people? Also to bring up a more disturbing issue, the fact that when we westerners visit muslim countries we are forced to cover our bodies. And we respectfully follow those laws.

Well done France, someone somewhere should have dared to implement this law which am sure will create havoc in the muslim community. However, it's avery good iniatitive enforce security. Other countries must follow the example of France.

My adopted Mother, a devout Christian, wore a small head covering at almost all times. It did not cover her face, only her hair, which she did not cut. Occasionally when she was shopping , a clerk would ask her about it. Her response was that God asked it of her.
The Muslim issue is a bit different. The Burqa is a response to the passage in the Koran which says "A man should not display his wife in the market place as he would a flower".
This issue is one of the main reasons I have such a problem with Islamic law. This "interpretation" is a real reach at best, and an outright corrupt way to subjugate women at the worst.
We ALL no what that passage really means, and it makes perfect sense. Having your wife in a bikini in the market place will cause nothing but trouble.
