France will not host Belgian paedophile's accomplice, ministry says

France will not host Michelle Martin if she is released from a Belgian prison, the justice ministry says. Martin was the accomplice of Marc Dutroux, who was convicted in 2004 for the rape of six girls and teenagers, four of whom were murdered.

AFP - France will refuse to take in the ex-wife and accomplice of Belgian paedophile and child-killer Marc Dutroux if asked when Belgium frees her early from jail, the French justice minister said Wednesday.
              
"For my part, I have no intention of saying 'yes'," if Belgian authorities ask for Michelle Martin, 51, to be housed in a French convent when she is released, as expected, for good behaviour, the minister Michel Mercier said.
              
Dutroux was jailed for life in June 2004 for the kidnap and rape in the 1990s of six young and teenaged girls, four of whom died.
              
Martin, the mother of three of Dutroux's children, was convicted of helping him hold his victims prisoner, and of complicity in the deaths of two of the girls, who were found starved to death in a locked cellar.
              
The prospect of her release sparked public outrage but a prosecutor said there were no grounds to appeal her early release.
              
An unnamed convent in France has agreed to receive Martin, but the government's accord is required for her to be transferred across the border.
              
"We have not been approached by Belgium" with a formal request, Mercier told reporters. "We will apply the convention between Belgium and France."
              
Martin has spent nearly 15 years in jail including detention before her trial, at which she was given a 30-year sentence.
