The Strauss-Kahn case
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, a prominent member of France’s Socialist Party, was arrested in New York on May 15, accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid. The charges forced Strauss-Kahn to resign from his post as head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and ruined his chances of running in France's 2012 presidential election. The criminal case against him unravelled in July after prosecutors acknowledged there were serious questions about his accuser's credibility, after which all criminal charges were dropped. Strauss-Kahn, known in France as DSK, now faces a civil case filed by the New York hotel maid.

"The most likely outcome is that this case will stick and even if he pleads not guilty, which he may be, he won't be able to be candidate for the Socialist primary for the presidency and he won't be able to stay at the IMF." |
How is Strauss-Kahn coping? |
|
Dominique Strauss-Kahn is holding up remarkably well under the circumstances. He has been gracious throughout this process. He is very grateful for the efforts of his entire legal team. Though he is unable to hear directly from his supporters in France, he knows the outpouring has been extraordinary and he is deeply moved.

"This man must be respected, his family must be respected. I don't want to make use for myself of what has happened. I think it would be indecent to make an episode out of this today and the rest of the week." |
|
"All this is completely astounding, immensely troubling and distressing. If the facts prove true ... it's something degrading for all women. It's terrible for the image of France." |
