The last chance to save the world?

It will soon be too late to reverse man-made damage caused to the Earth, according to experts say that levels of carbon dioxode released into the atmosphere have never been higher and that global warming can only be stopped if drastic action is taken immediately. CO2 emissions must not rise by more than 5% over the next ten years; but judging by the last few years, that's a very tall order.

Students in Quebec march against tuition fee hike

Student protests in the Canadian province Quebec are into their fourth month. Hundreds were arrested at marches to mark 100 days since the protests began. Students are demonstrating against an 80 percent rise in tuition fees in Quebec, the Canadian province that has until now enjoyed the country's lowest rates for higher education.

Egyptians head to the polls

Egyptians go to the polls in the country's first truly contested presidential election on Wednesday. With an array of candidates to choose from, voters will decide who's the best man to lead them through the last phase of the country's troubled democratic transition that began with Egypt's revolution in January last year. Cairo correspondents Kathryn Stapley and Sonia Dridi talked to some of the activists whose protests in Tahrir Square changed the course of Egypt's history.

A troubling time for Egypt's Coptic Christians

Egyptians go to the polls tomorrow to vote for a new president for the first time since Hosni Mubarak was ousted during the revolution last year. Two of the front-runners in the presidential race with a realistic chance of winning are devout Islamists, which is troubling for Egypt's Coptic Christians. They are Egypt's largest religious minority and many of them don't think any of the candidates are capable of protecting them from the religious violence that has been steadily increasing.
'The Battle of the Empty Stomachs'

'The Battle of the Empty Stomachs'

Palestinians nicknamed it "the battle of the empty stomachs". For weeks, 1,600 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails refused food and drink in what became the longest ever mass hunger strike. Israel finally capitulated and a deal was reached, allowing those in isolation back onto the general wards, and visas for those family members wishing to visit from Gaza. In exchange, prisoners agreed not to carry out "security activities" such as recruiting for terrorist missions.

Serbia's new president - nationalist or not?

Serbia has elected a new president - and it's not the one that most people were expecting. Tomislav Nikolic has unseated Boris Tadic, the man in power since 2004. Observers are worried about the new head of state, who used to be part of the ultra-nationalist Radical Party. He once said he would prefer to be allied with Russia than join the EU, but he has since toned down the rhetoric, saying he will take Serbia to Europe after all.

Global Warming

So at the moment, CO2 is hundreds of parts per million? So what! 25 million years ago, it was 5000 parts per million, and humans did not exist. Was the Earths ecosystem destroyed? NO,it recovered. So even if it goes up to 600 parts per million, dont worry,OK!

warming

co2 may be an issue but what about all the gas and oil being burned to release the energy> Energy is not created or destroyed, it is the transformation of this energy that creates heat. (Albert Einstein) Where does the heat from all the cars, motors, jets, a/c units, forest fires- over i million acres in russia this month and arizona 700 square miles and ships go? Case and point, TRILLIONS OF BTUS OF HEAT ARE ADDED TO THE EARTH EVERY DAY! MICHAEL PASCUCCI NHA CAM BOCA RATON FLORIDA

Science agrees

I read an article a couple of years ago about a study conducted on the number of scientific articles out of nearly 1000 articles on climate change that appeared in peer reviewed journals and that either disagreed with the statement that climate change is occurring, that climate change is being caused at least impart by humans, or that climate change will have a significant impact on human societies in the coming decades if not reversed. The number was zero of the nearly 1000 articles disagreed with any of those statements. Scientists around the world agree that climate change is an issue worth addressing with serious consideration. Anyone who says that climate change is either not happening, not due to humans, or not significant has no logical basis in fact nor studies to back up their claims. Scientists by default are skeptical people. They do not support something unless it has been proven time and time again.

LAST CHANCE TO SAVE THE WORLD?

It is a lie. When CO2 goes past 5000ppm then they can claim that it is unprecedented. There is .04% CO2 in the Earth's Atmosphere and of that "Man" has added an extra 4%. It is a trace gas. The politicians are basing their policies on a theory. The 'fact' that CO2 in the atmosphere warms the planet has never been proven. There has been no warming for 13 years now even though CO2 goes up. CO2 rises follow temperature rises not the other way around.

global warming disaster

I have been worried about global warming since I was a teenager and rode a bicycle everywhere until I was 28 years old and my second child was born. I just didn't have the strength to carry 2 kids and groceries or laundry. I am almost 60 and diabled or I woud go back to cycling. I really miss it:)

last chance to save the world?

is an outright lie, CO2 has been higher throughout recorded geological time, so nothing new there. As CO2 is less than 1% of the total atmosphere, I fail to see how so little can have so much effect, Humans add very little as regards green house gasses, volcanoes add a lot more, activity has gone up 300% in the last 2,000 years, the 'natural' world produces 5 times as much crud into the atmosphere, per year, that Humans. little known fact, termites produce more Methane than cows.

LAST CHANCE TO SAVE THE WORLD?

That article is an outright lie, throughout geological history CO2 has been a lot higher, as for CO2 now, its less than 1% of the total atmosphere, just how can less than 1% have so much effect? no account taken of volcanic activity up 300% in the last 2,000 years? 'natural' green house gasses production is 5 times what human's produce, per year, termites produce more Methane than cows! Do some Googling, I with those so called 'scientists' would.
