Polish reputation for football violence could tarnish Euro 2012
All being well, the Euro 2012 football championships will kick off in Warsaw in June next year. Poland is hosting the tournament jointly with Ukraine - the first time it will have been held east of the former Iron Curtain. But UEFA has major concerns about the prospect of football hooligans disrupting the tournament.

yes, suddenly hooliganism became a big problem

citizen reaction
I'm writing this from Poland. From here it looks like the government is trying to artificially expand the problem of hooliganism, to use a pretext for more repressive law and its enforcement, although we already have a cop per 370 people and CCTV in every small town. Personally, I believe that lack of respect for citizens' rights, as well as police officers' involvement in criminal business, are more serious problems here than an occassional vandalised stadium chair.
