Tsonga defeats Federer in shock Wimbedon semi-final
Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer suffered his first ever Grand Slam defeat Wednesday, to France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3-6, 6-7 (3/7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. He will face second seed Novak Djokovic for a spot in Sunday's finals.

AFP - France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga bludgeoned Roger Federer to an historic defeat to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals Wednesday, as the Swiss star suffered his first ever Grand Slam loss after being two sets up.
The sensational 3-6, 6-7 (3/7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 result condemned six-time champion Federer to his second successive quarter-final defeat at the All England Club.
It will also create more doubts over the 29-year-old's ability to add to his 16 Grand Slams - the last of which came at the 2010 Australian Open - and cast a shadow over his bid to match Pete Sampras's record of seven Wimbledon titles.
For 26-year-old Tsonga, it will be his first Wimbledon semi-final spot where he will tackle world number two Novak Djokovic for a place in Sunday's final.
"It was amazing. I played unbelievable. It's never easy to come back against Roger. I'm so happy, it's crazy," said Tsonga, whose best Grand Slam performance was runners-up spot at the 2008 Australian Open.
"He's the biggest champion in the sport. He has achieved so much and is the best player in the world. To be two sets down and come back was unbelievable. I served really well.
"Against Djokovic I will have to come out and do the same again."
Incredibly, there were no signs of the drama to come as Federer, who went into the match with a 4-1 winning record over the 12th seed, was in majestic form early on.
He cruised through the first set on Centre Court courtesy of a break in the second game, which turned out to be his only break of the dramatic afternoon.
The Swiss was in such dominant form that the opener took just 27 minutes with the former champion firing 12 winners, remaining error-free in the process.
Tsonga, playing in his second successive Wimbledon quarter-final, was more solid in the second, but buckled in the tiebreak which Federer was never going to relinquish once he had taken a 5-1 lead.
But the Frenchman, whose career has been blighted by a series of injuries, broke for the first time to lead 2-1 in the third set with a searing forehand down the line.
He then held his nerve in the 10th game where he needed a fourth set point to cut the deficit.
Tsonga was now in the ascendancy and broke to lead 2-1 in the fourth set as Federer, who had lost just two service games in his previous four rounds, was being out-hit by his muscular opponent.
A 14th ace from Tsonga gave him the set 6-4 and the quarter-final was all-square.
Federer was almost on his knees, broken again to trail 1-0 at the start of the decider before Tsonga surged away to capture a famous win in the 10th game when the former world number one wearily mis-hit a service return.

ROGER FEDERER
“Thank you for the post from GwenElle. It is good to see you support Roger Federer alongwith many others that take time to support him and write to me. I too believe he has the qualities to add to his tally of sixteen Grand Slam victories and make into that "seventeen" pretty quickly!! and I restate that in my opinion, however "great" a tennis player maybe at the time of his peak, people and generations in time will still only see the number one player as having the most Grand Slams.

CLOSING THE MATCH
“Before the masses of tennis fans unleash doubts on this Roger Federer performance and debate possible retirement, let's assess the qualities of Tsonga's talented background.Tsonga rose to fame by virtue of his performance in the 2008 Australian Open when, as an unseeded player, he reached the final, having defeated four seeded players along the way, including earning a straight sets win over the then world number 2 Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. Tsonga eventually lost to world number 3 Novak Djokovic in the final in 4 sets, after winning the first set – the only set Djokovic dropped during the tournament. The very likeable Tsonga is no pushover and has been known for many five set thrillers. This important fact should have been fundamental with Roger in closing this match out clinically and somehow I feel this fact eluded him on this occasion. This was much like the first set against Nadal at the French this year.I hope he continues in the knowledge that even with the amazing seventeen Grand Slams in the bank, people and generations ahead only remember number ones first. It would be great to see more slams in the bag for Roger Federer. Continuing best wishes.
