Behind the scenes at the prestigious restaurant Tour d'Argent
FRANCE 24 goes behind the scenes at La Tour d'Argent, one of the oldest and best-known restaurants in Paris, with a look in the kitchen, wine cellar and the famous dining room with its incomparable views of the city.
By Eric Olander / Tony Todd (text)
French restaurant 'La Tour d'Argent' claims a history going back to the late 16th century, and its famous views of Paris inspired the animated film Ratatouille. A favourite haunt of royals and celebrities, as much for its signature dishes as its spectacular view over Notre Dame, the restaurant is at the very heart of Paris in every way.
FRANCE 24 visited the restaurant for a chat with the chef, the sommelier (in charge of the vast wine cellar) and the floor manager about what makes La Tour d'Argent the French capital's most important restaurant. Listen to our audio slideshow to find out what goes on behind the scenes:

Flood of memories
After the army in the '70s, I was traveling in Europe with some friends. One had made us a reservation before we left home. I was made to bring a sport coat and tie. Glad I did. The only time I wore it was at La Tour d'Argent. We must have been the worst dressed in the restaurant. Stil, we were treated like royalty. I can remember what I had. Yup, it was duck, Caneton Tour d'Argent. the Sorbet tres valse desert was pleasant.
After, we toured the wine cellar. Wished we had been locked in for a week.
