Sarkozy took envelopes of cash from L'Oréal heiress, witness says

Nicolas Sarkozy may not be too keen to open the papers this morning - it's revealed that a witness told a judge they had seen Sarkozy receive envelopes of cash from L'Oréal billionaire Liliane Bettencourt. In other news, one French person in seven is living below the poverty line.

Libération's front page will make unwelcome reading in the Elysée palace - they publish extracts from a new book which interviews people with a grudge against Nicolas Sarkozy. One of them, a judge who worked on the Liliane Bettencourt case, quotes a witness as telling her that Sarkozy received envelopes of cash from the billionaire heiress. The witness was reportedly too frightened to make these allegations on the record at the time.

La Croix concentrates on shocking new statistics showing that one French person out of seven lives below the poverty line - while Le Parisien's reporters have visited Alabama to look at what a bankrupt town looks like.

Le Figaro concentrates on Libya - analysing why Algeria has agreed to take in the Gaddafi family.
