AFP - Fired Yahoo! chief executive Carol Bartz has resigned as a director of the company's board, whose members she described last week as "doofuses."

Yahoo!, in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday, said Bartz had resigned from the Yahoo! board of directors on Friday.

Her resignation came a day after Bartz blasted the board of the Internet company in an interview published in Fortune magazine.

In the interview, Bartz said Yahoo!'s board wants revenue growth "even though they were told that we would not have revenue growth until 2012."

She said members of the board were impatient because of the criticism they received for turning down a $47 billion takeover offer from Microsoft before she joined the company in January 2009.

"The board was so spooked by being cast as the worst board in the country," Bartz told Fortune. "Now they're trying to show that they're not the doofuses that they are."

Bartz, a former chief executive of business software company Autodesk, was hired to engineer a turnaround at Yahoo! but was fired with more than a year remaining on her contract.

Chief financial officer Timothy Morse was named interim chief executive while the board searches for a new CEO.
