Maradona UAE bow ends in defeat

AFP - Argentine legend Diego Maradona's first match in charge of UAE club Al Wasl ended in injury time heartbreak when they lost 4-3 to reigning league champions Al Jazira on Thursday.
Al Wasl, who lost to Al Jazira 4-0 on the day Maradona's signing was announced in mid-May, came back from 3-1 down at half-time to equalize.
All three goals for Al Wasl were scored by Argentine Donda, a recent signing by the coach.
However, an injury-time header from Bare denied Al Wasl and Maradona a deserved draw at the Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium.
It was a vintage Maradona performance throughout the night - the man with two watches showed intense emotions on the sidelines, throwing his hands up and arguing with officials when things went wrong with his side.
He let out a protracted scream when Donda scored the second of his three goals.
He also entertained the crowd by juggling a ball, and then blamed the organizers for arriving late for his press conference.
"I thank my players because they did very well. They fought to a man in the field and in the end I am very happy with them," said Maradona.
"The second half, my team was the only one on the pitch -- there was no one against us. The players did their best and the result should have been 3-3."
The coach was also certain that Ricardo Oliveira was offside for Jazira's third goal.
"There was a penalty we should have had, which we didn't get. And they had a goal they shouldn't have. But as I said, in the second half, Jazira were not on the field."
Apart from Bare, Ibrahim Diaky, Matias Delgado and Ricardo Oliveira scored for Al Jazira, who also have a new coach in Franky Vercauteren, the former coach of Belgian side Genk.
