The Third Man

Arnaud Montebourg is the star of the French front pages this morning - after his breakthrough third place showing in Sunday's Socialist primary. The papers ask if he'll push the other two candidates to the left - and what his own political ambitions might be.

Liberation gets the exclusive interview with French socialism's breakout star this morning - and he refuses to back either of the remaining candidates.

Le Figaro is rather less keen on Montebourg - using its editorial for a scathing attack on his key policies.

A British scandal makes it in to today's French papers - Le Figaro has a look at beleaguered defence minister Liam Fox.

And one of France's papers may soon be no more - tabloid France Soir is threatened with the chop.
