IN THE PAPERS

An overview of the stories making the French and international newspaper headlines. From Monday to Friday live at 7.20 am and 9.20 am Paris time.

Latest update : 2011-10-27

German tanks are the new aid plan

Today's world papers aren't too impressed with the euro deal - Greek papers compare the troika to a Nazi invasion, Italian ones say Berlusconi may have secretly agreed to resign, and German ones complain nobody appreciates Angela Merkel.

Greek paper Eleftheriotypa compares the EU troika of bureaucrats to the Nazi occupation - while Kathimerini says this is the end of Greek democracy.

The Wall Street Journal isn't much happier - they reckon fiscal union is a disaster waiting to happen.

Die Welt asks why Germans aren't more grateful to Angela Merkel, after everything she's done.

The Independent focuses on Italy - saying this economic wrangling could topple the government - and La Repubblica reports Berlusconi may already have secretly agreed to resign.
