NATO troops, Afghans killed in Kabul suicide attack
A Taliban suicide bomber targeted a NATO convoy in Kabul on Saturday, killing 13 foreign troops, three Afghan civilians and a policeman in the worst single Taliban ground attack of the 10-year-long Afghan war.

REUTERS - A suicide car bomber killed 13 foreign troops in the Afghan capital Kabul on Saturday, the deadliest single ground attack in 10 years of war in Afghanistan.
"We can confirm that 13 International Security Assistance Force members have died," said a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), giving no further details.
Earlier, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said three civilians and a police officer had been killed in the attack.
Excluding helicopter crashes, it was the deadliest single incident for foreign troops since the war began in 2001.
Lethal attacks are relatively rare in heavily guarded Kabul, compared with the south and east of Afghanistan, but Saturday's killings came less than two months after insurgents launched a 20-hour assault on the U.S. embassy in Kabul.
The assault on the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) convoy took place in the Darulaman area in the west of the city, near the national museum.
The former royal palace, now in ruins, is also in the area, along with several government departments, and Afghan and foreign military bases.
The Taliban later claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they packed a four-wheel-drive vehicle with 700 kg of explosives.
Also on Saturday, three Australians and an Afghan linguist were killed in Uruzgan province in southern Afghanistan when an attacker wearing an Afghan National Army uniform opened fire on them, authorities in neighbouring Kandahar province said.
Violence across Afghanistan is at its worst since the start of the war 10 years ago, according to the United Nations, despite the presence of more than 130,000 foreign troops.
ISAF says there has recently been a fall in attacks by insurgents but this data excludes attacks that kill only civilians and attacks on Afghan security forces operating without international troops.
On Thursday, insurgents armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades attacked two bases used by foreign troops in southern Afghanistan. An Afghan interpreter working for ISAF was killed in that attack, which stretched into Friday before the last of the four insurgents were killed.
There has been a series of high-profile assassinations, as well as day-to-day attacks by Taliban raiders, over the past year.
More than a dozen people were killed in the September attack on the U.S. embassy and ISAF headquarters.

OK, who is running this operation. The senior officers must be out of their minds for allowing NATO troops to be riding on a bus in a war zone. This bus was nothing more that a "killing zone" for these poor soldiers. God Bless Them.

It is understood that we have to win the hearts and minds AND teach these folks on how to protect themselves. However, has anybody wondered just how many Taliban we have armed and trained over the past 10 years to use that training and new weaponry against U.S. troops and other ISAF troops?
It is Vietnam all over again. There we couldn't tell the difference between one that just wanted to be left alone to live as they had for years or a Viet-Cong trying to erode the the South from within. The politicians need to let the Generals run this war and get it done and over with once and for all.

This is extremely sad. Our troops deserve our highest praise. May God judge the Taliban appropriately. May God also help us endure the disaster that is the obama presidency. How in the world could he have been elected as the Commander in Chief? Surely, the military will, when and if the time comes, stand this person down and enforce the pledge they took to defend the Constitution.

Nation building and proping up the Karzai government is not for the US to continue. US attacked talibam and drove out bin Laden in 2002 for 911. But western troops are still there. These deadly attacks have not decreased since 2002. Why is US still there year after year?

The US & Europe are committing a slow suicide. Denying who the Taliban are, and denying Islam (if you prefer, fundamentalist which is just another denial)is a politically correct form of suicide. If traveled to well over 25 countries, and the few countries who have large Christian/Muslim populations living in relative peace are slowly being subverted by the brand of Islam touted in the Middle East. A prime example is Ivory Coast, which I've visited & have conducted business in for many years. A very good friend of mine who was head of security for the country had intercept arms coming in from the Middle East into Abidjan. Funny how that bit of information never made it to the US? What about those large groups of fundamentalists coming in from Yemen, Pakistan, etc.. with counterfit passports? Because I was an American these parasites forced my evacuation out of a hotel? Fortunately I knew the right people or the outcome could have been much different. Does anyone remember what happened in Abidjan? What is coming to all that ignore the true Islam will suffer for their ignorance.

I read this and I do not understand what the bomber was thinking. Is his country not safer with us being there? Does he think that I am in terror reading what he did? What were his goals for his country? Am I wrong in my thinking that I could see that the rules that I was following were from 700 years ago? I am not interested in the normal answer but an answer from someone who thinks that he was right in what he did. I am lost in my opinion and I do not have answers that make me understand this man.
