Nuclear power: yes or no?

Nuclear energy leads today's French papers - with state electricity firm EDF being fined 1.5 million euros for spying on Greenpeace protesters, and socialist presidential candidate François Hollande under pressure to scrap nuclear power altogether.

Liberation asks its readers on the front page if they back nuclear power - while reporting that negotiations to form an electoral pact between François Hollande and the Greens have hit a stumbling block over the issue. This as state electricity company EDF goes on a massive PR offensive aiming to defuse the bad publicity over that spying scandal.

Le Figaro says the whole story is putting Hollande in a very awkward political position.

Meanwhile, Le Parisien looks at Standard and Poor's 'accidental' downgrading of France, Dominique Strauss Kahn in a new sex scandal, and how French local authorities are selling off assets for cash.
