'I just couldn't fire on the crowd'

Syria leads some of France's papers as they take a look at defectors from the regime - and whether the Arab league can do anything to help. Italy makes the front page of others - on the left they're worried imposing technocratic governments is undemocratic, while on the right they just hope it works.

Liberation's correspondent has met Syrian dissidents in Lebanon - while Le Figaro interviews Bashar al-Assad's uncle.

L'Humanité argues imposing technocratic governments on Greece and Italy is undemocratic - while Le Figaro is just worried they might not work.

Le Parisien's focus is elsewhere, though - they report rumours Dominique Strauss-Kahn's wife wants a divorce.
