Artistic utopias

We're heading to Luxemburg's Modern Art Museum to discover a fantasy world at the "Invented Worlds, Inhabited World" exhibition. It's an exploration of utopia and a representation of time and space as imagined by artists, architects and scientists. As with any utopia, strange creatures inhabit it - Theo Jansen's beach beasts and Paul Granjon's sexual robots are particular highlights of the exhibition.

A Cuban Legend's African Tour

On today’s music review, it’s all happening in Ivory Coast. Legendary Cuban band Compay Segundo will be paying tribute to the group’s founder with two special concerts in Abidjan. But watch out, strict dress code is required: Cuban shirts! Abidjan will also host the urban music festival FEMUA, created by the group Magic System. Among the star-studded line up is Malian star Oumou Sangare.

Mali calling

Paris’ Palais de Tokyo has a program called the “Alertes” (Emergency calls), consisting of an invitation made to artists and curators who want to react to the news. This fourth Alerte is about Mali. Alain Fleischer, director of Le Fresnoy, the National Studio of contemporary arts, decided to show two young Malian video artists from that school and whose work is inspired by their country’s tragic situation.
