Another EU referendum is the worst possible outcome

As today's international papers react to the deal to save the eurozone, some say it's unlikely to achieve much, while others fear it could sow the seed for all kinds of political worries around Europe.

The Guardian thinks Angela Merkel definitely came out on top of yesterday's talks in Paris - but the Irish Times is more worried about the consequences, which for Ireland could mean a fresh referendum.

El Pais reports on the Mexican presidential candidate who can't name three books he's read, and the Guardian on Iran's revolutionary guards - who thought 70-year-old D-Day plans were for an imminent invasion.

Brigitte Bardot doesn’t mince her words! She has called Patrick Balkany “un gros plouc menteur” or “a big hillbilly liar”, the UMP Party stalwarth, suggested in his memoirs that he once had a love affair with the veteran French actress.

Press anticipates mass protests in Teheran for Revolution Day

The Times’ Paris correspondent Charles Bremner is in gleeful mood this morning recounting the woes of famous French philosopher Bernard-Herni Lévy. “BHL” as he is known is “the laughing stock of the Left Bank” having referenced a philosopher who does not exist in his latest book.

French debate on national identity was a “fiasco”

Libération’s editorial this morning is entitled “rabbit fart” – not exactly a flattering summing up of Immigration Minister Eric Besson’s three-month debate on French national identity. Le Figaro is also critical saying that the Government’s proposals at the conclusion of the national identity debate “fall far short of expectations”.
