IN THE PAPERS

An overview of the stories making the French and international newspaper headlines. From Monday to Friday live at 7.20 am and 9.20 am Paris time.

Latest update : 2011-12-19

The epitome of a dissident

The French papers pay tribute to Vaclav Havel - calling him the one man who did the most to lift the iron curtain. We also look at the airport strike in France, and the Chinese village standing up to the authorities.

Liberation plays front page hommage to Vaclav Havel - calling him one of the greatest statesmen of the 20th century.

La Croix focuses on his belief in Europe as a force for good - saying we would do well to remember that idealism now.

Le Figaro attacks striking airport workers -saying they should be banned from disrupting people's Christmas holidays.

Liberation is also looking at a fishing village in southern China - that's barricaded itself against local police as a protest over land rights escalated.
