France 2012: Hollande tries to up the ante
The New Year sees party hostilities reopen after the Christmas truce, as Socialists and Conservatives cross swords over an apparent insult. Also, just how long should Nicolas Sarkozy wait before throwing his hat into the presidential ring? And we meet a top-level athlete who says that despite all her achievements, she still thinks about her pension.
Programme prepared by Lise Barcellini, Luke Brown, Claire Brown, Gary Schimmel-Bauer and Nathalie Tourret.

president
I watch France24 a lot, since it(s version in English) is offered as part of my cable network service. The channel is interesting, often better in presenting French topics than are the larger domestic channels.
But it is dismaying to hear all your announcers pronounce "Sarkozy" differently from the French pronunciation. They all say "sir-COSY" (as of "a jovial man"), stressing the middle syllable. I do not understand why!
What plans do you have for Hollande, should he become President? Will it be "Holland" - or perhaps "The Netherlands" - instead of the normal French "Hollande"?
