Papers report on the death of France 2 television journalist Gilles Jacquier in Homs in Syria. They also look at a new study showing that the French work "six weeks less per year than the Germans". Other stories include a workers' protest at Père Lachaise cemetery, and the viability of France's nuclear industry. That's the focus for this Thursday 12th January 2012.

Le Figaro leads on the death of the French journalist killed in Syria, Gilles Jacquier.

It also covers the publication of a new report saying working time in France is the lowest in the EU, apart from Finland.

And it comments on a protest by gravediggers at Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. The “fossoyeurs” want early retirement and to work an hour and a half less each day.

The business paper La Tribune looks at one of the issues in the presidential campaign, the future of France’s nuclear industry.

Libération, meanwhile, reports on the incidence of child leukaemia in areas near nuclear power plants in France.

Last but not least, Le Monde leads on yet another scandal in France, this one concerning the “police of the police”.
