Gilles Jacquier: 'French ideals have triumphed'

Lebanese daily L’Orient Le Jour looks at the situation in Syria where the first foreign journalist was killed - in Homs - on Wednesday. Gilles Jacquier worked for France 2 television.

The front page comment piece in L’Orient Le Jour says the French spirit so many people respect has triumphed in Homs – “a concern for justice, a sense of nuance, and a healthy indignation”.

The Guardian headlines: “If Syria wanted to prove Homs was safe, it failed”.

The Tehran Times reports on the killing of an Iranian nuclear scientist, suggesting the modus operandi was the handiwork of terrorists affiliated with Mossad, the Israeli secret service.

The Jerusalem Post quotes an Israeli Defence Forces spokesman saying he would “definitely not be shedding a tear” for the scientist killed in Tehran.

The Haitian paper Haiti En Marche reports on the second anniversary of the Haiti quake, showing a picture of damage in the capital. It asks: whatever became of the aid money?

The Miami Herald headlines: “Haiti experiences progress, exasperation two years on”.

Finally, Britain’s Daily Express says our lives are being ruined because we are not dozing enough at the office. It headlines: “In Praise of the Power Nap”.
