Fashion Special Haute Couture Collections Spring-Summer 2012

DAY 1
Here, in the most luxurious district of Paris, the venerated French fashion house Dior unveils its latest collection. For now, stand-in designer Bill Gaytten, Galliano’s former right hand man, is holding up the fort brilliantly. This season, Gaytten renewed Dior classics from its iconic 1947 collection.
And the long wait is finally over as Versace makes a triumphant return to Paris Haute Couture Week at the Ecole des Beaux Arts with a collection designed by Donatella Versace.
Italian designer Maurizio Galante doesn’t simply create clothes, he creates works of art. His Spring 2012 couture collection presented at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale seemed to defy the laws of gravity.
DAY 2
Welcome abord « Air Chanel» ! Karl Lagerfeld, famous for his lavish sets, transformed the Grand Palais into a jumbo jet. No attention to detail was spared from the numbered seating to the floor-level lighting. It was a flight few wanted to disembark.
Brazilian designer Gustavo Lins is a former architect. How does this feature in his creations today ?
Parisian designer Alexander Vauthier is a guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. He has dressed everyone from Rihanna to the dancers at the French cabaret Crazy Horse. His inspirations are varied and diverse.
DAY 3
Elie Saab unveiled a stunning array of sparkling pastel-colored ball gowns perfect for the red carpet. Saab says his latest collection was inspired by fairytales and meant to indulge modern-day princesses.
It’s a well-known fact that fashion feeds off cinema and vice versa.
Maxime Simoens is a very precocious couturier. He likes telling stories, he adores the movies and he loves actreses.
She’s new to the official Haute Couture calendar in Paris. Yiqing Yin likes deconstructing lace in order to recompose it and pair it with natural furs to produce something organic.
DAY 4
The stars came out for Paris’ Spring Summer 2012 haute couture week. Singer Beth Ditto, actress Charlotte Rampling... strip teaser Dita Von Tesse and Catherine Deneuve.. all graced the front row in support of Jean Paul Gaultier. Inspired by the late pop icon Amy Winehouse, Gaultier payed tribute to the singer who died in July of 2011.
The fashion house of Martin Margiela is unlike any other... Mr. Margiela, it’s creator, is no longer involved. The current owner Renzo Rosso also runs fashion house Viktor & Rolf. As well as the brand Diesel. This season’s collection showed clothing designed from objects, accessories and even other new clothes.
And finally to the house of Givenchy whose desinger Ricardo Tisci doesn’t like to get caught up in words or the runway frenzy.Worth noting...350 hours of work to cut and resew crocodile scales on to silk tulle.
We end this haute couture round up with a young and clever Parisienne house. On Aura tout vu.

A prophetic and visionary Haute Couture summer 2012 !
