'The end is nigh for Assad'

The Greeks are up in arms over leaked plans to appoint an EU commissioner to check up on their finances, while German papers think that still isn't going far enough. We also look at Syria - as the papers predict time is running out for Assad.

Kathimerini reports on Greek anger at plans for an EU Commissioner to check up on their budget discipline - while for Bild, this still wouldn't be going far enough, and even for the more balanced der Speigel, it wouldn't do anything to address the underlying problem - Europe is broke.

The Times reports from Syria - saying that even those who back Assad have realised he will not be in power in a year's time, and an intermediary needs to be appointed to talk him into stepping down - otherwise, the UN needs to plan military intervention.

El Pais reports on the demonstrations yesterday supporting Baltasar Garzon, the Spanish judge facing corruption charges they say are dreamed up as punishment for digging up Franco-era history - whereas right-wing ABC says the left are simply living in the past.

He has tanks and APC the FSA has low intensity weapons, Assad uses mid intensity on the FSA and the FSA are using low intensity. I think they are doing very well in bleeding the regime and it time Assad will lose control over parts of the country, allowing no go zones for the regime and thus safe havens for the FSA and civilians.
