Czech travel agency dreams up corruption tours
AFP - If you want to check out a lobbyist's expensive villa, a pointless but overpriced cable-car scheme or a money-munching road tunnel project, then a new Czech travel agency could be the thing for you.
"Reading news about corruption is all very well, but seeing it with you own eyes is even better," said Petr Sourek, mastermind of CorruptTour which is aiming to corner the oddball market.
Sourek, a 38-year-old translator and philosopher, told the newspaper Hospodarske Noviny that he had come up with themed tours for those fascinated by headline-grabbing graft cases in the Czech Republic.
Among them is the "Prague Safari", which is like a Hollywood homes-of-the-stars circuit but instead passes the upscale residences of lobbyists and rich businessmen caught up in dodgy deals.
Another tour called "Hospitals on the Edge of the Law" -- a nod to Czech soap opera "The Hospital on the Edge of Town" -- takes in locations known for shady tendering procedures.
"I'm not aiming to make money out of this, to begin with, but I hope at least to cover my costs," Sourek said.
