This week, we present two dazzling books on the trauma of coming of age. One is american, one is japanese, but both bring back the topic of the loss of innocence and the paradise lost myth.

CULTURE CRITICS

"We the animals" is the debut novel by a 31 year-old american author. Justin Torres wrote a book about the wild and brutal aspects of childhood. He tells the quest for a child to seek his own individuality in a very chaotic and dysfunctionnal family.

"Boy" is the collection of three short-stories, written by japanese director Takeshi Kitano("Hana-Bi"). Usually found of dark and very masculine atmospheres, he wrote these very nostalgic, lyrical and heart-breaking stories back in the eighties. They just got translated in France and United States.

Cannes International Film Festival 2012 - 'You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet'

A glittering cast is assembled for the 65th Cannes Film Festival, which gets underway in the south of France today. Among those expected on the red carpet are Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Brad Pitt, Reece Witherspoon and Kristen Stewart. A total of 22 films will compete for the coveted top prize, the Palme D’Or, including "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" by France's Alain Resnais.
