'Power, lies and corruption'

In today's international press - the Senegalese papers fear an attempt at fraud from outgoing president Wade, we ask if the supposed attempt on Putin's life was real, and the UK phone hacking scandal widens - to take in widespread police corruption.

Senegalese paper Sud Quotidien is already publishing election results before they have been verified by the electoral commission - because they fear Wade's team will attempt to manipulate them - while Le Quotidien is looking at who the challenger Macky Sall really is.

The Moscow Times looks at the supposed plot to kill Vladimir Putin - while the Guardian says that, if it was a fabrication, that shows just how vulnerable the one-time strongman is.

El Pais is furious at the Spanish Supreme Court's decision that Baltasar Garzon was right to investigate crimes committed under Franco - while the spectre of misdeeds at The Sun have reared their head once again, this time in the context of accusations police officers were systematically bribed.
