A combat worth fighting for

With less than 100 days until the Olympics kick off in London, we take a look at the health consequences of some of the combat sports that will be featuring in the Games.

Women’s boxing is to make its Olympic debut in London this summer, as doctors continue to warn of the high risk of brain injury. We speak to Maeva Hamadouche, France’s Amateur Female Boxing Vice-Champion, and Aya Cissoko, 2006 World Amateur Female Boxing Champion, to find out what drives them to keep on fighting.

Cryotherapy is a new treatment increasingly popular with sportsmen and women keen to heal their injuries fast. It involves a stint in a freezer where temperatures get below 100 degrees. We check it out.

Finally, we explore the new sport of Chessboxing, which forces competitors to be as sharp with their minds as they are fierce with their fists.
