China Human Rights: Dissidents and diplomacy (part 2)

They call him the blind lawyer, and Chen Guangcheng certainly blindsided the Chinese government this week. After years of harassment at the hands of local officials, the dissident managed to give his guards the slip. He is now thought to be at the US embassy in Beijing - all this just days before Hilary Clinton arrives in China for a summit on trade and foreign policy. Laura Baines and her panel discuss how this issue could affect US-China relations.

US mid-terms: the new rules of the House

There's no other way to call it: Barack Obama has suffered the political equivalent of a bloody nose. Tonight, he’s coming to terms with the biggest political upset of his career. In their biggest congressional victory in 62 years, Republicans have won control of the House of Representatives, and made gains in the Senate as well. There's nothing left for the president to do but to hold out the olive branch.

Ivory Coast: an election to end division? (part 2)

There’s a lot riding on this week’s elections in Ivory Coast. Once one of the most peaceful and prosperous countries in Africa, the nation has been divided and beset by violence for over a decade. Officials say at least 80 percent of voters turned out to cast a ballot. The UN says that’s among the highest turnout ever for an African election. So could this be a turning point for Ivorians? Or a trigger for yet more turbulence?
