From Toxic Banking to Asbestos

From toxic banking to the asbestos industry – which one is getting a lifeline this time? Also, we focus on World Heritage sites being destroyed in Mali, with the expectation that more is to come.

No sooner has Barclays come under the harsh light of public scrutiny, than the Telegraph is saying enough already – Stop the Banker Bashing!

The Guardian takes issue with this, saying now is the chance to investigate the banking sector as a whole and make up for the missed opportunity we had to do so in 2008.

Also, the painful irony of an Islamic group in Mali destroying ancient mosques that have been classified as World Heritage sites. Ansar Dine, the break-away group, says tourism must stop in Mali, for “it fosters debauchery.”

And Canada is known for environmental protection, right? Quebec’s Premier has just extended a $58 million loan to an asbestos producer, in the hope that it can boost exports to developing countries.
