French nuclear testing 'probably is' linked to cancer

France's nuclear testing in Algeria and French Polynesia from the 1960s to 1990s 'probably is' linked to cancer developed by people living and working nearby. That's according to a report by doctors, commissioned by the French law courts. Alleged victims of the radioactive experiments are now calling on the government to recognise the state's liability abd widen access to its compensation fund.

Reporters Without Borders has published its press freedom index, ranking 179 countries. The NGO singled out Kim Jong-Un, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad as the world's worst press freedom predators. Ninety professional journalists were killed in 2012, a record since the press freedom group started its reports. Syria was the world's most dangerous country, with 18 professional reporters killed.
